Vista Vibes #10: Andrew Coates
NOTE
Andrew is a member of hte DPE team and is based in Sydney.
How long have you been running Vista for on your desktop (honestly)?
I don't have a desktop. My primary tablet (M200) is still running XP with Office 2003. My demo box is a Toshiba A7 with Vista Beta2 and Office 2007 Beta 2 (plus as many dev tools as I can find). It's been going since about 2 weeks before Vista Beta 2 was released. I have to say that the OS beta experience has been a lot harder than the VS/SQL beta experience in terms of stability and the ability to do my job (which has a lot to do with being able to show off the current dev tools), but I guess that's what makes this stuff so much fun.
What about Office 12?
See above
Are you involved in any of the upcoming Vista events?
Apart from organising the schedule for the community events, no. I sat this round out.
Is it true that you are a member of the crack DPE Global Corporate Challenge team with which I am currently in bitter competition with? How many km’s have you done so far? How many burgers does that equate to in Kj burn rate? Is it true that Chuck has his step-o-meter strapped to his ankle and has been seen off of the Broadwater at Labrador practicing his big double kick?
I'm not so sure about the crack bit (unless you're talking about how we wear our pants), but yep, Frank's team are wearing the pedometers. I'm also not sure it's reasonable to measure these things in km, it's much more satisfying to use a more standard unit, like, say, nanometres. I think you'd have more to say about what Chuck's been up to with his instrument than I would.
Finally, I’ve been focused a lot on Vista and Sharepoint and have only installed Office 12 client recently. I like the RibbonX UI stuff with galleries and the like. Is there anything new in VSTO to get excited about?
The coolest VSTO-related thing to come out recently is the announcement of "Cyprus" - this'll give you the ability to develop Application-level add-ins for O2007 from VS2005. Way Cool.
