TechEd Retrospective #2 - William Bartholomew
Retrospective #2 comes from William Bartholomew, and active participant on the aus-dotnet list and a TechEd attendee. Let's see what he has to say about TechEd 2005.
- Name rank and serial number.
William Bartholomew, Senior Consultant, Dialog Information Technology. My blog is at www.bartholomew.id.au.
- What TechEds have you been too? Why did you go? If you've been to more than one, why do you keep going back?
TechEd 2005 (Gold Coast) and TechEd 2000? (Brisbane). I felt it was a good opportunity to see some new technologies in use and experiences had by experts using them.
- Once it was over, were you glad you went? What did you get out of it that you consider valuable?
Both times I’ve been glad I went. Besides the technical information I gathered it was a good opportunity to network with other developers and experts in the fields.
- What were your favourite parts of TechEd?
The Security track is one of the best, mainly thanks to Jesper Johannsen and Steve Riley, even if you only go to one of their sessions it is worth listening to them speak, and they know their stuff.
- What could have been done better?
The sessions do vary a lot in quality, I’ve found choosing sessions based on who's presenting them the best bet.
- How much of it was relevant to you personally? Did you get a big enough benefit that the expense was worth it, or would, say, someone else from your workplace have benefitted more?
It’s a bit expensive for the average developer which is a shame because most of it is relevant and useful to the “average” developer who sometimes can’t get their hands on some of the technologies.
- Would you go again if you had the chance?
I am... See you in Sydney.
- Where was the party? Did you have a good time?
I couldn’t make it because of other commitments, but it was at Movie World.
Thanks William. Remember everyone - keep an eye on that security track :)
