The Ready Summit Tour is over, so what did I learn?
The Ready Summit tour is over. I delivered my final presentation today to a small audience in Canberra. It has been a busy month that has taken me and the rest of the team presenting all around Australia from Sydney to Brisbane to Perth to Melbourne to Adelaide and back home to Canberra. Hopefully we managed to impart a bit of knowledge to everyone who attended the sessions but for me - it was a major learning experience - here are some of the lessons I learned:
- In a developer session, talking about a feature is just boring, it needs a demo.
- Don't ever present someone elses slide deck (you would have thought that I would have learnt this one by now).
- Always have a backup machine - even if you have done a tech-check, disaster is just a hardware glitch away.
- Once you have a demo that works, no matter how simple it might seem, don't decide to extend it "live" as you are presenting.
- You can get jetlag on a domestic flight.
- There has to be a better way to do evaluation forms.
- Practice, practice, practice.
I guess I am just waiting for Frank to take the keys to the group blog away from me, but tomorrow I have one last thing to do - I'm doing a podcast with Nick on the MSDev show.
